If you can imagine a land of rolling hills and mountains, beautiful beaches, pitcuresque streets and marinas, spectacular sunsets and breathtaking waterfalls, historic castles and ruins, and all kinds of marine life, then you are probably imagining the Isle Of Man.We returned this week from 4 days there, and it was an absolute joy. The weather was generously warm and sunny, the people were very friendly and welcoming, and the entire island was clean and beautifully kept. It is almost as though the Isle has taken everything great about the UK and crammed it into one place. Why would you need to go anywhere else? The only disappointment was that we didn't see any of the famous tail-less Manx cats (except a stuffed one in a museum). But we did see many Atlantic Grey seals on the south tip of the island. The island hosts the TT (tourist trophy) motorcycle race every May, and thus the roads are some of the best to drive on anywhere, although at the altitudes and bends along the course I wouldn't want to ride a motorbike! Presented here is a quick snapshot of some of the things we saw. We took in castles, abbeys, museums, and a tram ride through the mountains. So over the coming days I will post photos from specific sites and venues. Hopefully this first glance conveys what a jewel this little island is in the UK's treasure trove of exquisite places to visit. Virtually all the images were taken with the Olympus EM-5 and the 12-40mm F/2.8 or 60mm F/2.8, with a few sunset and seal photos taken with the Nikon D600 and 70-200mm with 1.7x TC attached.
