Ilha Grande was all about the beaches. And as someone who isn't normally a beach person I can tell you that they were absolutely stunning and undoubtedly deserved their reputation as being amongst the world's best. I didn't take many photos here; what you see below is really just about it. There isn't much to see on a island such as this, only some fantastic swimming opportunities and a crazy hike up into the overlooking mountain. The searing heat soaked my body in its own sweat, and by the time we reached the beach again we simply wanted to cool off in the glistening blue Atlantic. We took a speedboat the rest of the way to Lopez Mendez, apparently one of the world's finest beaches, and skipped along the ultra fine, powdery hot sand to greet the surf that carried us back to shore. The sheer pleasure of being carried along the water on a rushing surf was enough to convert me from a beach sceptic to a marine mammal. One particular asset of Lopez Mendez was the absence of civilisation along the beach front; no buildings or piers or arcades behind us. Just the dense forest and mountains flanked the sand and water. Even the restaurants were on the beach, and food and cocktails were typically delicious. One of the local crabs even decided to join us. Not much to see but plenty to enjoy, especially once we found shelter or respite from the heat.The images here were taken with both my phone and the EM-5 with either the 12-40mm F/2.8 or 40-150mm F/2.8 attached.
