A small but no less beautifully ornate cathedral in the heart of Newcastle, St Nicholas has all the usual photographic opportunities found in these historic buildings. From the grandeur and scale of the columns to the geometric patterns in the architecture, everything in between is a treasure of statues and ornaments with plenty of interesting lighting upon them. All images shot with the Olympus E-M5 and 12-40mm F/2.8 or 60mm F/2.8.

I appreciate your perspective in your shots! Well done!

Wonderful pictures. Interior light but great depth of field and very good exposure. I tried to shoot a cathedral in Denmark a couple of months ago and did not come close. Were you using a tripod? I have no experience with M4/3 but maybe that is giving you some help with the DOF .

Kevin, I shot all of these hand-held. I would never take a tripod into a church or any other place of worship. M4/3 does have greater depth of field because of the smaller sensor; more is in focus at any given aperture than a larger sensor. I wrote an article about photographing cathedrals, if it helps, here:

Many thanks :)
