This weekend I went to see my dear friend Zuzana, and she kindly took me to the Tropical Wings wildlife park in Essex. It's a great place that houses everything from butterflies and birds of preys to wallabies and lemurs. Here is a sample of the butterfly shots I took. I mention the Olympus OM-D EM-5 in the title because, coming from a big bulky DSLR, I am constantly impressed by what this little machine and its lenses can do.All these shots were taken with either one of the Olympus 45mm F/1.8 or the Panasonic 20mm F/1.7 (which can focus more closely).I will have a separate post with the animal shots in a few days. Thanks Zuzana for a great day! Enjoy the pics!

This is a 100% crop from the 20mm, which hopefully demonstrates how sharp this lens is.

Thank you! :)

Great shots. We're you using a tripod?
Alpha Whiskey PhotographyAug 29, 2014 01:11 PM
Nope. All hand held :)

Great work. Your pictures with the 45 1.8 have made the decision easy for me. I'm going to have to buy this lens now.
Alpha Whiskey PhotographyAug 30, 2014 09:36 AM
It's a super lens! But for macro work I'd recommend the 60mm F/2.8, which can also be used for portraits and has excellent bokeh. :)

I haven't considered the 60mm. I heard the 45mm was sharper and great portrait lens. Which would be my primary use. Right now I use the PL25 exclusively. You think the Sigma 60mm is a better lens?
Alpha Whiskey PhotographyAug 30, 2014 11:22 AM
Never tried the Sigma, Michael, so couldn't say. But the Oly 60mm is super sharp. See here:

Oh. Sorry. I thought you were talking about the Sigma 60mm. I didn't know there was an Olympus 60. Between the oly 45 and oly 60 if you were to buy one which would you prefer?
Alpha Whiskey PhotographyAug 30, 2014 12:44 PM
I think I use the 60mm more. I bought my 45mm second hand and it wasn't too expensive. Beautiful lens. I suppose it depends on how much macro work you do. The 60mm give you the option of focusing closer, while at the same time being a good portrait and short telephoto lens.
